It is the oldest and most widely spread among the six schools in Saivism. It is the strongest within Tamil traditions of South India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and else. Sometimes it is referred to as Tamil Saivism. There are 2 primary schools within Saiva Siddhanta. One is the pluralistic school of Meykandar. The other one is the monistic school of Tirumoolar.
